What is Enbridge?

Enbridge originally Enbridge Incorporation is an oil and gas company engaged in supplying various Energy related services to the residents of the United States and Canada. The company's prime services include transporting and distribution of crude oil, natural gas and other liquids to various parts of the country. The company came into existence in the year 1949 as Interprovincial Pipe Line (IPL) that was named after a Pipeline in the country. That pipeline was created to transport oil from western Canada to refineries in the east. The company changed its name to Enbridge Pipelines in the year 1998 in which Enbridge was given from an English word 'Enbridge' which is made up of two words 'energy' and 'bridge'. In addition to oil and natural gas distribution business, the company is also engaged in the business of power transmission for which it owns number of power plants.

Enbridge looks after world's longest crude oil and liquids pipeline system that is constructed between the United States and Canada. The company is also engaged in the business of generating renewable energy through wind, solar, geothermal, waste heat recovery and number of other alternative energy technology projects through its subsidiaries. The names of some of its subsidiaries are Enbridge Technology Inc., 'Enbridge Energy Partners, LP', Enbridge Pipelines Inc. and Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. Enbridge is having number of offices of their own throughout the country with its headquarters in Calgary, Alberta.
