What is UCO Bank?
UCO Bank is an Indian public sector bank and is one of the oldest banks in the country. The bank deals in vast range of banking solutions including Consumer banking, corporate banking, finance and insurance, investment banking, mortgage loans, private banking, wealth management etc. It is counted among one of the largest banks in India. UCO Bank is headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The bank is operating over 2500 branches with ATMs across the country and carrying its offshore operations in the nations like Singapore and Hong Kong. It also provides Foreign Exchange business in over 50 centers in India. The Bank oversees its operation through 44 zonal offices in India and is divided among over 30 departments to perform its various functions. UCO Bank was founded in 1943 as United Commercial Bank with the capital of 2 crores Indian rupees. Its idea was proposed by GD Birla in 1942 during the backdrop of Quit India Movement in 1942. Its first Board of Directors were composed of many famous personalities. It was nationalised in 1969 with other major banks, as Government of India had owned one hundred percent of its share. United Commercial Bank was renamed to UCO Bank in 1985 due to existence of bank with same name in Bangladesh. The bank set its foot in other countries in 1950s when it opened its branch in Singapore.
