MTNL stands for Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, a state owned telecommunication Services Company that was founded on 1st of April 1986, and was being served as monopoly in telecom sector in both Metro cities until other options for telecommunications came in 1992. The company was setup by the Government of India to bring reformation in Indian telecommunications services and expanding telecom network. The company came into existence in Mumbai in 1882 with name 'Bombay Telephone', and setup first telephone exchange in Mumbai with motto 'Transparency makes us different'.
