What is Qtel Contact?
Qtel is the former name for Qatar branch of Ooredoo, a provider of telecommunications services in Kuwait and Qatar. The branch was started in 1949 but it got official recognition in 1987 when it began all its telecommunication services for Qatar. First telephone exchange of the company was setup in Doha which has capacity to manage 50 phone lines at the time. As time passed, lines got expanded from 50 to 150. Gradually, Qatar branch of Qoredoo made strong hold over the Qatar telecommunications industry. In May 2001, the company was given appreciation to reach Internet trial speeds of 100 megabits per second as it was the first company all over the Qatar to make this possible.
Coming to Ooredoo, which has been providing telecommunications services in Kuwait, Qatar, Maldives. It is one of the largest public telecommunications services in the country providing Mobile services, wireline services, cable service for commercial firms, residential markets and households.
The company provides variety of Internet services including triple play, mobile Internet, 3G and video calling. It also provides 'Mobile TV broadcast' that provides 13 channels like Al-jazeera, CNN, and CNBC on mobile handsets. Apart from this, the company also introduced Terrestrial Trunked Radio, known as TETRA, it is a mobile radio system used by organizations belonging to sports, police, defense, security, safety, paramedic, rescue etc.
Moving toward the awards and recognition, the company has been given Gulf Excellence Award in 2005 and Economic Award in 2006.
