What is Metro Dc?
Being the prime Transit authority, Metro is covering major location of the United States including national capital area. To run public transportation smoothly, this transport authority began operations in year 1967 as the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC). All the operations of this transport authority have been reserved by the Metropolitan council since 1994. Metro Transit is the largest transport operator in the province of Minnesota having headquarters in Minneapolis. Just after the two years of foundation, in 1969 Metro inaugurated rail system in the region of Minneapolis. It has divided its rail lines into the Metro Blue lines, Metro Orange Line, Metro Green Line, and Metro Red Line. As the years passed, it tried to make transport strong, as in 1973, Metro made run four regional bus system, and created wide network of transport system. With the coming of 1978, its bus operator won 3rd International Bus Roadeo award in Toronto. In present time, it provides 24 hours bus service through out the region by using over 15,000 buses to run continuous bus service. Approximately, 5 million people are being served through this public transit. Metro Transit operates over 86 train stations, serving total Railway track of 106 miles. In addition to this, it also came with the concept of Paratransit in 1994 to serve the region of Minneapolis serving 2.3 million trips annually. As per the report of 2013, Metro Transit had total daily ridership of around 270,9000. All the drivers of this transport company are associated with the Amalgamated Transit Union, a representative organization of labours throughout the United States and Canada.
