What is University of Connecticut?
The University of Connecticut is the United States based publicly held co-educational university which is affiliated to the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The university was established in the year 1881 with the Aim of providing high quality education and ample opportunities to the students. It was started as 'Storrs Agricultural School' and the name was dedicated to its land donators "Charles and Augustus Storrs". In 1939, it changed its name to 'The University of Connecticut". The university is famously known with UConn which offers an extensive range of academic program including Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Medicine, Fine Arts, Pharmacy, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Law, Business, Engineering, Social Work and Dental Medicine. All the courses are approved by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The University of Connecticut has nineteen departments and thirteen centers. It has six campuses consisting Storrs campus, Greater Hartford campus, Torrington campus, Stamford campus, Waterbury campus and Avery Point campus. The main campus of the university is Storrs campus which is spread in an area of around 4,400 acres. It has various student organizations such as musical groups, community service clubs, religious, athletic, political and cultural. On the other hand, placement opportunities are also provided by the university. The University of Connecticut also offers sports facilities and its athletic teams are known with "Huskies".
