Maybank USA is an American division of a multinational banking and financial service provider Maybank (also called Malayan Banking Berhad). The history of the bank dates back to May 1960, when a Malaysian banker Khoo Teck Puat gave birth to a banking services company under the name Maybank. Throughout its life, it has acquired a number of companies worldwide. In 1963, the bank expanded its business operations with the purchase of Goodwood Park Hotel. In the year 1992, it introduced the Maybank General Assurance Bhd. In 2001, Maybank made presence in China by establishing its office in Shanghai. From 2002 till March 2008, Tan Sri Amirsham Abdul Aziz was the Chief Executive Officer and President of the bank. After that, Maybank named Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Oma as the President and CEO who served till June 2013. In Malaysia, the bank purchased the assets of the Credit Card operations of American Express.
In November of 2007, the bank re-branded MNI Insurance with Etiqa Insurance and Takaful Nasional Etiqa Takaful. In 2008, Maybank grown with the acquisition of 20, 15 and 97.5% shares of Mcb Bank Limited, An Binh Bank and Bank Internasional Indonesia respectively. After acquiring the 44.6% stake in Kim Eng Holdings Limited, a publicly owned stock broking and investment services company, in 2011, the bank stepped up. The bank has over 42,000 employees and serves a large number of customers worldwide. It has a subsidiary Etiqa through which the bank offers Islamic Banking services.
