Kindle or Amazon Kindle is the family of e-book readers produced by Amazon.com. It allows users to read the online version of books, newspapers and other media. The basic version or first generation of kindle is started from 6 inch of display with the 64 MB of RAM, Xscale CPU, and 256 MB of storage with the facility of SD Card. By 2013, Amazon has released its sixth version in the market.
Amazon carried a research and development work on e readers in 2004 in Palo Alto, California. The “Kindle” name was suggested by Micahel Cronan, branding consultant of Amazon. Its first generation of Kindle e book was launched in 2007 and was the instant success. It came back to markets after went out of stock at releasing time. Two years later in 2009, the second generation of Kindle was released in markets with the features like text to text speech, audio reading and the capacity to accommodate over 1400 books. It was thinner in Shape than its previous version though lack the SD memory cards. UR, a Stephen King's novella was released for exclusively Amazon Kindle second generation model. Kindle 2 was upgraded with Kindle 2 international version with the GSM and 3G network. Along with the second generation, Amazon released Kindle Dx to support PDF files. The other version of DX series is Kindle DX international version and Kindle DX Graphite and both are released in 2010. In the same year, the third generation of Kindle e book was launched and was available in Wi Fi and Wi Fi+3G models. It introduced many upgraded features like Unicode, Voice Guide options, battery life etc. The fourth generation of Kindle is known as Kindle 4 and was announced in 2011 along with Kindle Touch. Kindle 5 was released in 2012. Later on, Kindle Paperwhite first generation was also released in same year while Kindle Paperwhite 2 was released as its sixth generation in 2013.
Amazon has also launched an apps, Kindle for PC to read books on PC and purchase of e books from Amazon's store. It is compatible to use on MS Windows and Apple Macintosh. This apps also supports the Mobile phone platforms like iPhone, Blackberry and Android.
