What is British Telecom?
British Telecom is a British multinational telecommunication company and is a subsidiary of BT Group plc. The company has its presence in over 170 countries of the world through number of subsidiaries such as BT Global Services, BT Retail, BT Wholesale and Openreach. The BT Group is pioneered in offering different telecommunication services like fixed line telephony, Mobile phone telephony, broadband internet services and many digital services like such as satellite television, cable television and digital terrestrial television services. The company came into existence in the year 1980. The company was privatized in the year 1982 by the British government following the passage of the Telecommunications Act, 1984. Under its British Telecom subsidiary the group controls the telephone exchanges, trunk network and local loop connections for the vast majority of British fixed-line telephones in the Great Britain. The parent company of British Telecom is an active member of London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. BT is ia descendant of world's oldest communication company and regarded as world's first national telecommunications undertaking named 'The Electric Telegraph Company'.
