OC Transpo Histroy
The foundation of OC Transpo was laid by the inauguration of Ottawa's first transit company on 15th of August 1866. After that in 1886, the first public transportation system was established with a horsecar system. In the year 1891, the Ottawa Electric
Railway Company was launched by Thomas Ahearn. This private company accordingly offered heated streetcar service covering the downtown core. In 1973, Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission established and later it was renamed as OC Transpo. Today, it is engaged in providing following types of transit services such as bus services, bus rapid transit, paratransit and light rail services.
