What is Milwaukee Airport?
General Mitchell International Airport is a joint civil-military, public airport located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was established on October 19, 1926 and is named after the United States Army Air Service General Billy Mitchell. It is also known as the Chicago’s third airport and is owned by the Milwaukee County. The Airport mainly serves the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois and it is operated by the Milwaukee County Airport Department. The Mitchell Airport is the hub for AirTran Airways and Freight Runners Express and it is the only airport in Wisconsin or Illinois that is served by all the major domestic airlines. It is one of the best airports of the nation spread on more than two-thousand acres of land. The airport has five asphalt and concrete paved runways and the airport has forty-eight gates, forty jetbridges on three concourses in one terminal. It is the largest Airport in Wisconsin and the facilities provided by the Mitchell Airport include Mitchell Gallery of Flight, a non-profit museum located in the main building, retail outlets, food court, airport security, historical marker and large number of food options and shops. The terminal of the airport remains open round the clock and the airport offers more than two-hundred daily departures.
