Hero officially known as Hero MotoCorp Limited, earlier used to be known as Hero Honda Motors Limited. Hero Honda Company was started in 1984 as partnership between Hero Cycles and Honda automobile company of Japan. Hero Cycle began from small town of Pakistan, known as Kamalia and cycle was the first product to manufacture in the company that became very popular with the name Hero cycle by 1975. Hero Cycles Ltd and Honda. The two companies together became Hero Honda Motors Limited started in 1984 at Dharuhera, India. Munjal Family and Honda both had 26% share in the company. In 80s, the company became quite popular for its fuel efficient motorcycles.

Hero has made tie-up with Erik Buell Racing, one of the prominent motorcycle sport company in the United States, and the company has 49.2 percent shares in Hero MotoCorp Limited. Both companies have decided to sell jointly hero motorcycles and scooters in North America. According to the survey conducted in 2013, the company had total market capitalization of around INR 308 billion.
