What is Fort Leavenworth?
Fort Leavenworth is a American Military service situated in Leavenworth County, instantly northern of the City of Leavenworth in the north part of the state. The post is the earliest effective military west of the state, having been in function for more than 180 years. The Fort has been traditionally recognized as the Intellectual Core of the Military. The Fort was also the source of the Buffalo Troops who were actually members of the American 10th Cavalry Regiment of American Military, established in September 1866 at the fort. The nickname was provided to the Negro Cavalry by the American communities they fought, the name gradually started to be identifiable with all of the African-American regiments established in 1866.
