Brief History
Columbia Pictures was incorporated as CBC Film Sales in 1918 with the partnership of Harry Cohn, Jack Cohn and Joe Brandt. Its earlier production was low
Budget cinema and was headquartered at Goer Street. In 1924, CBC was renamed as Columbia Pictures Corporation after Joe Brandt sold his stake to Cohn brothers. The studio was led to success when it signed Frank Capra, who gave breakthrough success to the studio with the films, It Happened One Night, Lost Horizon, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, etc. After enjoying the phenomenal success for over sixty years, Columbia Pictures was sold to
Coca Cola Company in 1982. The latter kept the studio under its ownership until 1989 before being purchased by Sony.
