Bloomingdales or Bloomingdale's is a chain of departmental stores in the United States that is owned by one of the American corporation named Macy's, Inc. The company came into existence in the year 1860 when Brothers two Brothers Joseph and Lyman G. Bloomingdale started selling hoop-skirts from their Ladies Notions' Shop in Manhattan. The company was named after the surnames of the two brothers. But actually company's first store was opened at 938 Third Avenue, New York City in the year 1872. The brothers closed the business of hoop-skirts as the trend of hoop-skirts starts declining day-by-day. With the passage of time the company added number of other items to its line of products such as clothing, footwear, fashion accessories, housewares, furniture, bedding, handbags, jewelry, beauty products, optical, salon, portrait studio etc.
Bloomingdales mainly expanded to other parts of the country during the period from 1970s to 2000's. The company runs a customer loyalty program in which people earn loyalty points on purchase of items through its chain stores which can be redeemed in the form of discounts on purchase of other products at other shopping outlets in the country. Bloomingdales prime competitors are Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York, Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. The company owns number of stores in the country with its head office based in New York. Bloomingdale's also sell its products through its where people can order products by choosing from a list of products by paying the requi amount of product price.
