What is Zellers Windsor?
Zellers Windsor is one of the stores of 'Zellers' which is the name of a discount retail store chain owned by the Hudson's Bay Company that is amongst one of the major discount department retailers in Canada. Zellers Inc operates a network of more than 350 discount department stores in Canada. The stores in the chain are pioneered in the sale of various products ranging from clothing, footwear, fashion accessories, jewelry, beauty products, electronics, home furnishings like bedding, furniture, toys, sports equipment, home appliances, housewares and many others. The company owns a large number of stores throughout the country with its headquarters in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
Zellers came into existence in the year 1931 with the opening of its first store in Ontario with the business name of 'Stores For Thrifty Canadians'. Within a short duration of time it was converted into a chain business after the acquisition of 14 fourteen Canadian locations of American retailer Schulte-United. It is privately held company that was established by the efforts of Walter P. Zeller after whom's last name the business was named. Since its inception the company took over operations of number of companies in order to expand its business to other parts of the country.
Some of the major acquisitions made by the company includes its acquisition of 'Federal Stores' chain of variety stores during the 1960's, Fields a clothing retailer in Canada in the year 1976. In the year 1978 Zellers presented a bid to acquire 'Hudson's Bay Company which turned down the offer and instead of selling their company it showed interest in purchase of Zellers. Hudson's Bay Company acquired the company completely in the year 1981.
