The privately owned company started its business era in 1946. The company was born as a result of purchase of a small jewelry store by Roberta and her husband, Bill Zimmer in North Carolina. The newly purchased store was rechristened as Reeds Jewelers and later, the company made its presence in Whiteville, North and South Carolina and Jacksonville regions. By the year 1979, the company had about 24 retail outlets. In 1981, Alan Zimmer joined the company, who became the Chief Executive Officer and President in 1985. In the year 1995, Reeds Jewelers completed the acquisition of Melart Jewelers.
