Phoenix Airport or Phoenix Sky Harbor is an international airport and is located in Maricopa County, Arizona. It is the busiest airport of Arizona and management of the airport is under the city of Phoenix. The Sky Harbor Airport is hub for US Airlines, Ameriflight, Great Lakes Airlines.
History
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was one of the earlier airports to be built in Phoenix and carried out its operations in 1928. In starting days, the airport was equipped with one runway and by 1930's the airport began to serve major airlines including
American Airlines and TWA. Later on passenger building and runways were added to the facilities of the Phoenix Sky Harbor. The 1960s saw the major development in the infrastructure of the airport including cross runway and other terminals.
Operation and Facilities
The control tower of the airport is 99 meter high and is counted among one of the tallest in the USA. It has been use since 2007. Its four terminals house more than 120 aircraft gates. The flight operated from here led to many international and domestic destinations. Apart from serving passenger carriers, the airport is the hub for several
Cargo airlines including ABX Air, Ameriflight, Empire Airlines, and
Fedex Express. There are several airline lounges located at the premises of the airport such as United Airlines United Club, British Airways Terraces Lounge, and US Airways Club.
