What is Old Main Penn State?
Built in 1863, Old Main or Main Building is the first building of Pennsylvania State University for the major courses. The building contained classrooms, offices and resident facility for four hundred students. It was designed by Hugh McAllister. Old Main was renovated in 1930 at cost of $837,000. The bell in the tower and Westminster chimes are the gifts, given by class of 1904 and 1937 respectively. Currently, Old Main is administrative center of Penn State and contains offices of President and other offices.
