What is NRS Medical College?
Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital is a medical college and teaching hospital located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established on December 1, 1873 as Sealdah Medical School and was named as the Campbell Medical School in the year 1884. It was named as the Campbell Medical College in June 1948 and was later named as the Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College on August 10, 1950. The college offers undergraduate, post-graduate and diploma programs in Medical Education and is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The admission takes place on the basis of merit scored in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination and All India Pre Medical Entrance Examination. The hospital attached to the college has a capacity of approximately nineteen hundred beds and large number of patients is treated at the hospital. The Emergency Department of the hospital remains open round the clock and the hospital provides all the therapeutic and investigation facilities to the patients. The Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College provides all the facilities to the students including Central Library, Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, Residential Quarters, Lecture Halls, Seminar Halls, Sports and Recreational facilities and Play grounds.
