National Australia Bank acquired the Northern Bank Limited and Northern Bank Ireland in the year 1988 and was renamed as the National Irish Bank. The Northern Bank and National Irish Bank was acquired by the Denmark based Danske Bank Group in the December 2004.The Danske Bank is permitted to issue their own bank notes and is one of the four commercial banks in Ireland to get this permission.
