The London Fire Department is the department that provides fire and rescue services for the people of London. The department provides different types of services including fire suppression, auto-extrication, defibrillation services, Hazmat, Technical Rescue & Water-Ice Rescue Services. It is one of the largest fire departments in United Kingdom and is 3rd largest in the world after Tokyo Fire Department and New York City Fire Department. The department responds to frequent incidents and accidents including traffic collisions, floods, trapped-in-lift releases and many more. The London Fire Department includes a fire prevention division that provides people of United Kingdom with fire prevention programs and other training and educational programs. The London Fire Department performs its operations under London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. The Fire Prevention Division consists of 13 Fire Inspectors, a Public Information Coordinator, 2 clerical staff, an Assistant Chief Fire Prevention Officer, 3 Certified Public Fire and Life Safety Educators and a Chief Fire Prevention Officer. The fire department provides safety through legislation and by-laws including Open Air Burning By-law, Residential Sprinklers, Smoke Alarm Legislation and Vacant Building By-law. The working fleets used by the fire department include pumps, incident response units, command units, scientific support units, detection, identification, and monitoring units, fire investigation dog unit and many more. The London Fire Department has its operating divisions in 5 different sectors including Northern District, Southeastern District, Eastern District, Western District and Southwestern District. The operations of the London Fire Department were started in 1865 as Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
