The Liverpool Airport is regarded as one of the fastest growing airport of Europe, between 1997 and 2007. During this time period, the number of passengers hiked from 689,468 in 1997 to 5.47 million in the year 2007. As of 2013, it was considered the United Kingdom's twelfth busiest airport with the total count of about 4.2 million passengers.

The cities in England to which the airport mainly provides the services are Liverpool, Merseyside, Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales. The name of the airport was given after John Lennon, which was a musician. Liverpool John Lennon Airport has one runway with length of 7,497 feet. There are many facilities available at the airport such as car parking facility, telephone services, Wi-Fi access to the public, etc. The Liverpool Airport was founded in the year 1930, after the survey was done by the Imperial Airways. It was constructed in the grounds of Speke Hall, Liverpool Airport. ly it was opened in the year 1933. The airport was named as RAF Speke during the World War II, when it was overtaken by the Royal Air Force. It was later on 1st of January, 1961 that the airport came under the control of the city and thus a new runway; 7,500 ft long was opened by Prince Philip. This runway was built on existing field's southeast direction. The Liverpool Corporation handed-over the controls of the airport to the Merseyside County Council and later to five Merseyside councils. In the year 1986, a modern passenger terminal was opened which was built adjacent to the new runway.
