What is Liberty Jail?
The Liberty Jail is an old jail located in Liberty, Missouri, USA. Joseph Smith, Jr. and his other companions were locked up in Liberty jail from 1st December 1838 to 6th April 1839 during the Mormon War in the year of 1838. Saints sometimes called it as 'prison temple' because of revelations obtained during Smith's jail time there, which are now documented as Segments 121, 122, and 123 of the Lds Doctrine and Covenants. In 1939, the was owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in 1963 Smith presided over the establishment of a limited renovation of the prison completely within a museum.
