It was introduced on 1st July, 1962 to support 3rd human spaceflight, Apollo manned lunar landing program. The corporate office of the agency is located in Merritt Island, Florida, United States. An average of 13,100 employees works under the Kennedy Space Center. The Vehicle Assembly Building or VAB, where the American manned launch vehicles are assembled is positioned as 4th largest building across the nation by volume. It is one of the 10 NASA field centers which is listed on National Register of Historic Places.
