The history of John Deere Company was started in 19th century in Illinois, USA. John Deere Company came into existence as a manufacturer of small tools like pitchforks and shovels in 1837. This business was started by John Deere in a 1,378 square feet shop situated in Grand Detour. During the year 1842, John Deere with its new partner, Leonard Andrus acquired a land for making new two-story factory for plows, and the factory name was L. Andrus Plough Manufacturer. In first year, the factory produced near about 100 plows and approximately 400 plows in next year.
In 1886, founder of John Deere died, and the company came under Charles Deere. Then, Charles started production of farm equipment products along with plows. In 1890s, the company began Bicycle business. After the death of Charles Deere in 1907, the company passed to Charles' son-in-law, William Butterworth. He placed step in tractor business in 1912. Till the year 1918, Deere & Company sold tractors under the Waterloo Boy name.
