The Company was started in 1968 as Jacksonville Electric Authority. Its list of products include Electric utility, Sewage treatment, Reclaimed water and many others. JEA has over 647,000 customers including 417,000 electric customers.
Moreover, Jea has 305,000 water customers. Addition to Jacksonville, the company covers Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties. The Company operates five electricity generating plants and covers 730 miles of transmission area. It handles distribution line of 6,500 miles long. The company is also co-owner of St. Johns River Power Park. Its total electricity generation capacity is approximately 3,757 megawatts including 3.2 megawatts from Girvin Road Landfill. JEA operates one of the most effective water aquifer across the world which has 135 artesian wells tapping.
