The company was formed by Andrew Gower, Ian Gower, Paul Gower, Constant Tedder. Its games are 8Realms, Ace of Spades, FunOrb, Herotopia, RuneScape, Stellar Dawn, Transformers Universe, Planetarion and War of Legends.
Jagex specializes in the development of browser-based games with supporting platform and technology. It has several offices that are located in Cambridge and London. Jagex is well known for RuneScape, an online role playing Game which can be played by a large number of players. The game was launched on 4 January 2001.
It is headquartered in Jagex Ltd Cambridge Science Park Cambridge, United Kingdom. The company has 480 employees who provide employee management, customer support at home and content development. The company name Jagex comes from its original slogan Java Gaming Experts.
The company became a member of TIGA, which is the game developer trade firm in the United Kingdom on 15 April 2009. It received various awards and ranked as 59th in the Sunday Times '100 Best Companies to Work For' list in the year of 2007. Jagex company received the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2011 in an Innovation category and sponsored the 2011 Develop Quiz.
At the National Online Recruitment Awards function the Jagex won the "best major employer" award. It also participates in the national and international charity functions and donate funds for the Social Welfare of the people.
