Hydro Ottawa is the provider of electric service to more than 314,000 residential and commercial customers in Ottawa and Casselman. It is engaged in electricity distribution, renewable Energy generation, energy conservation and management services. It has around 84 distribution stations, 2,600 kilometers of underground lines, 2,800 kilometers of overhead lines, 35,300 transformers and 48,200 hydro poles to deliver its services. Hydro Ottawa Holding Incorporation operates two divisions which includes, Hydro Ottawa Limited and Energy Ottawa Incorporation.
History
Hydro Ottawa was introduced with the collaboration of local municipalities which includes, Gloucester Hydro, Goulbourn Hydro, Kanata Hydro, Nepean Hydro and Ottawa Hydro in the year 2000. The company is controlled by the City of Ottawa, and administered by an independent Board of Directors which are selected by its shareholder. It has green generation capacity to over 320,000 megawatts hours annually after purchasing the hydroelectric stations on the Ottawa River in 2012 and also operating the second landfill-gas-to-energy plant at Moose Creek.
