What is Grand Coulee Dam?
Grand Coulee Dam is one of the largest dams in the world located on the Columbia River, Washington. It was built to cater the needs of hydroelectric power and irrigation. Its construction was started in 1933 till 1942. It is the largest electric Generator facility in USA. It is 550 ft high and has the volume of 9,155,942 m3. The dam serves 4 different power houses containing 33 hydroelectric generators. To promote tourism at the dam, a visitor center was established in 1970s which houses many historical photos, geological samples, turbine and dam models, and a theater.
