What is General Hospital Hamilton?

Hamiton General Hospital came into existence in 1848 to set up a platform for medical teaching in Hamilton and near by areas. It is located on Barton Street East, adjacent to Victoria Avenue North. It is run by Hamilton Health Science, a medical group having six hospitals focuses on cancer treatment. This General Hospital comes under the affiliation of McMaster University, a public research university founded on 23 April 1887. This teaching hospital became the part of Hamilton Health Science in 1996, and established as strongest teaching hospital in Ontario province. The hospital is having on an average 8,000 employees and 1,000 physicians. Hamilton General Hospital holds Level 1 trauma center or emergency department. As per the report, the hospital owns approximately 458 beds having state-of-the-art facilities, The hospital is served as regional center for cardiovascular care, neuro-science, trauma and burn treatment. Moving toward the department, the hospital has vascular care center, neuro-science department, trauma center. Hamilton General Hospital has also setup stroke and rehabilitation center serving both inpatient and outpatient patients, and spread over an area of 100,000 square foot. This rehabilitation center was added to hospital in September 2009, offering care to stroke, neurobehavioural brain injury, amputee, spinal cord injury etc. The hospital has research team of 400 members. the General hospital is funded by Hamilton Health Science, as this foundation raises funds for the hospital. In one report, the hospital considered as one of the busiest hospitals in Ontario and near by regions.
