What is Gautrain?
Gautrain is a well reputed Railway network of South Africa. It is offering an easy railway facilities to the residents of Johannesberg, Pretoeria, etc. It is the swifter railway unit of Gauteng Province of South Africa which joins the Johannesberg, Pretoria, Tambo International Airport, etc. The main apprehension behind this to built this railway network was to relieve the traffic congestion in the busiest ports of Johannesberg, Pretoria, etc. This railway track has relieved the traffic pressure from the main cities of Pretoria, Johannesberg, etc. The Gautrain Railway network is 80KM in length. The operating speed of this train is 160 km/h.
There are many railway stations of Gautrain Network but the main stations are Johannesberg Park Station and Pretoria Station. The other stations are Centurion Station, Rosebank Station, Hatfield Station, etc.
The Construction of this project was announced in 2000, when the Gauteng Provincial Government enhanced the support from the local and the international experts for this vast project. In the year 2006 Travel Manuel the finance minister of Guuteng Provincial Government allocated the $7.1 billion amount for this project. The construction of this project was started on September 2006. The company which had availed the contract was Bombela International Consortium with the support from the Gauteng Provincial Government. This project was completed in two phases. The fixed construction schedule of both the phases was as 45 months and 54 months respectively. The sole purpose of this project was to complete it before 2010 as the South Afican Government had grab the honor to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup but unfortunately that wasn't completed before 2010.
The Gautrain Railway project was completed in 2012 and the opening ceremony was held on 7 June 2012 between the railway stations of Rosebank Station and Johannasberg Park
