What is Fbi Cjis?
A division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) is responsible for providing criminal justice information to FBI, licensing agencies and law enforcement agencies etc. The division was founded in February 1992 to serve as a data bank having information of criminal history, fingerprints etc. Situated in Washington DC, FBI Criminal Justice Information Services is administered by the Department of Justice (DOJ), and its activities corresponds to the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Today, CJIS is considered as the largest division in the FBI.
FBI is an security and law enforcement government agency, that is responsible for protecting people in United States from the terrorist attacks, violent groups, serial killers and criminal activities. FBI bought 986 acres of land in Clarksburg, West Virginia for the construction of the CJIS division in January 1991. With its construction been completed in July 1995, CJIS division has a infrastructure of 500,000 square feet, 100,000 square-foot computer center, 500 seated auditorium and cafeteria having capacity of 600 seats.
The objective of FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) is to minimize terrorist and criminal activities by providing services in the form of Fingerprint Identification, National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), Law Enforcement Online (LEO), National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), NCIC 2000, CJIS Intelligence Program, Law Enforcement National Data Exchange (N-DEx) and Biometric Identification Services.
The CJIS maintains a database of records which it organizes into reports of crime taking place in the regions of the United States and are referred by the police and investigators to track the criminals and terrorists.
