Ethan Allen Global was set up in the year 1932. The company was created by Theodore Baumritter and his brother-in-law Nathan S. Ancell. Initially, Ethan Allen was engaged in manufacturing houseware products and after four years of inception, it purchased a furniture factory in Beecher Falls, and included furniture products in its business line. After that, its name was changed to Ethan Allen.

In the 1970s, Ethan Allen launched its business operations in Yokohama, Japan and thus became an international company. In 1972, the company shifted its head office to current location Danbury, Connecticut, which was previously located in New York City. Ethan Allen became a public company in the year 1993.
