What is Congestion Charge?
Congestion Charge is the transport fee, which is charged on passing the vehicles through the Congestion Charge Zone. It is administered by the Transport for London, a governmental body responsible for the management of transport system in Greater London. The main Aim of introduction of the transport charges is to reduce the traffic and congestion and enhance the Revenue of Transport for London.
History
Smeed Report was the first fully assessed report on road pricing passed by British government in the year 1964 to improve traffic condition in the city. London congestion research program had suggested in the year 1995 that city traffic volumes will reduce on congested roads and economy of the city will also benefit from these schemes. The first congestion charge was introduced for the vehicles entering central London in the year 2000. Major roads are covered under congestion charge scheme. These measures were taken to improve traffic and transport system in the capital city and making attractive place for business investment.

With the help of Congestion Charging Auto Pay, it is easy for the visitors to pay the Congestion Charge through credit cards. The Congestion Charging Auto Pay registration allows the people to register maximum five vehicles and there is a Congestion Charging Fleet Auto Pay facility for the people who want to register
More Than five vehicles. The transport fee system was started on February 17th, 2003. The fee is charged from Monday to Friday: 07:00am. To 06:00pm., excluding the weekends and public holidays.
