Commonwealth Edison is an American based Energy company which supplies electricity to residents and business customers in Chicago and northern area of Illinois. It is also called as ComEd. The company is a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation which generates supplies and manages electricity and natural gas in more than 40 states of the United States of America. Exelon has around 12 nuclear plants which generates more than 30,000 megawatts of energy. ComEd operates approximately 1 million miles of power lines and serves more than 3.5 million customers in Illinois. The headquarters of the company is situated in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Commonwealth Edison Company was established in 1907 with the merger of two electric companies namely Chicago Edison and Commonwealth Electric.

Commonwealth Edison has launched
Smart Meter and Smart Grid technology with in-home display devices (IHD) which helps the residential customers to manage their bills at home. The company has a large fleet of around 2,300 fuel-efficient vehicles which are commonly known as Green fleet that includes plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and extended range electric vehicles.
Commonwealth Edison had occupied 7th position in an America's largest green fleet companies in the environmental survey organized by GreenBiz.com in 2009. The company also conferred educational programs for students in the ComEd Discovery Lab.
