Bharat Gas traces their
Roots back to the year 1955 when “Burshane” brand name was created by Burmah
Shell company. Later the company was nationalized by the Government of India. The name of "Burmah Shell" was changed to "Bharat Refineries Limited" after its nationalization in the year 1976. After one year of business, the name of the company was again changed to Bharat Petroleum Corporation
Limited (BPCL). For the distribution of oil and gas services to the residents of the country, it operates mainly four refineries located in different parts of India. The refineries are named as Numaligarh Refinery in Assam having capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per year, Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra having capacity of 12 million metric tonnes per year, Kochi Refineries in Kerala having capacity of 9.5 million metric tonnes per year and Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh having a capacity of 6 million metric tonnes per year.
