Aakash tablet is an Android- based tablet computers manufactured by VMC Systems Limited, a Telecommunications, Networking, and Power Conversion products manufacturing company based in Hyderabad in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The component was named after a sanskrit word “Akasha” which has various relevant meanings. Aakash Tablet India was created by “ DataWind” a publicly held wireless web access products and services providing company situated in Montreal in the province of Canada. It commenced its operations with an official approval on 5 October 2011 in New Delhi. It is a Global System for Mobile (GSM) Communication Device and is procured by the Government of India. The component was designed with an Aim to connect over 400 universities and 25,000 institutions in an e-learning program. Aakash tablet supports numerous image, audio and video and document file formats such as MPEG2, BMP, MPEG4, PPT, JPG, ODT, WMA, DOC, PDF, XLSX, AAC, ODP, and many more. It is in built with an Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and has a 7-inch touch screen, 256 MB Random Access Memory (RAM) and ARM 11 processor which is developed by British company ARM Holdings. “Aakash 2”, the upgraded second-generation model of Aakash tablet has been preloaded with various applications such as Messaging, Calculator, Calendar, DatawindPkgeManager, Contacts, Internet Browser, notepad, DevTools, and many more. The component helps to improve the standard of education and provides computing and Internet access to students and teachers for a better learning.
